My greatest professional strength as an educator who will teach music is that I am not afraid to try new things. With the new curriculum in place, which encourages teachers to use more inquiry based learning in the classroom; I can use my strength to create more lessons around student interest. I am passionate about creating active and engaging lessons that involve student interest and cross-curricular connections. I believe music can easily be integrated into almost any subject and is a great way to connect and engage students in the Elementary school grades. I also think this is a great way, to connect to the community and bring in community members to teach music lessons which then connects to Social Studies and Language Arts. One way is to connect with local Indigenous Elders in the community and bring them into the class to tell stories, and share traditional music from their culture.
